Coming up for air, but been watching a Green Day concert from 2013 on Youtube. The BBC production of the Reading Festival - exquisite show. A bit over 2 hours of high end pop-punk by masters of the game with a great crowd. About a half hour in, the version of Boulevard of Broken Dreams is insanely great.

If you have the time and like the band, it’s worth a listen.

Wholly crap, the day keeps getting worse.

My wife’s brother was in a car wreck yesterday because some Texas douchecanoe in front of him had a large Christmas tree in the back of his truck, it was not tied down, and it slid out.

My brother-in-law was unable to stop in time for a Christmas tree on the highway and wrecked his car.

He’s fine, but the car is seriously screwed up. The pickup driver drove off and left him there.

In the meantime, I want to call my mother today, but even the Grief Beyond Belief site is no help for the question of “so your parent died yesterday the day before Christmas, now how do you relate?”

They of course, are closed on Christmas. Can’t even call and ask them.

Yes, my mother and I are atheists, but the entire society is built around “this is the most wonderful time of the year” and it absolutely sucks.

They have a Faceborg page (blergh) where you can chat with others (no help since I’m not on Faceborg).

And you run into the same problem when you talk to others. “Merry Christmas! How are you today?”

“My step-father died and my brother-in-law wrecked his car running into a Christmas tree.”

Real conversation stoppers there. Probably killed it here. /rant

Lots of time on low heat but the good bits are not falling off the bones, and the marrow is still in there. This is unacceptable and could ruin Christmas. I may have to pull the bones and give another roast. The marrow will be sucked out, that I can guarantee.

Yep. And since you can’t really talk to anyone it makes the day harder. We have no tree, no presents and my husband is leaving to go see his dying brother right after dinner. We can’t afford Christmas let alone gas, hotel and food for him to go up there, but what else is there to do?

My family has money and resources. They know we’re living off savings and hoping husband will qualify for disability. Not. One. Word. From anyone. Because then they would have to either help or say no. Nope. Instead, my parents are spending the holidays with my cousin and her husband as they have for a decade or more. They have a grandchild here, but that matters not either. We’ve had no real income for nearly a year. And not a word, a thought or anything. I’m done. I’m almost 60 and I have never really belonged to this family, all the trying in the world is never going to work. And it sucks.

My husband is of course sad and worried, but to be honest, we knew the call would be coming at some point. It was just a matter of how fast BIL decided to kill himself. And that is what’s happening, he chose opiates and smoking a carton of cigs every 4 days or so over life and family. So he’s hurt and sad and pissed off too. Thanks for asking.

How are you and your wife doing with all your family stuff? I hope at least you find some love and laughter with family and friends as you travel and deal with everything.🤗❤️

I miss big chunks of threads these days, so I am only now seeing that your step father passed away. My condolences to you and everybody affected by it.
My older brother, the one I idolized from a very young age (my mom tells me I got him in trouble one day for being late to school - I was 4 or 5 and followed him to school and he had to bring me back home. I think I was far enough behind him that he didn’t realize till he got there) died Christmas Eve day. The extra little kicker was when Marilyn found, among fishing reels and underground comix from the olden days, lots of unopened prescription bottles for heart and other medications.
Fuck I miss him a lot.
